Mother To An Addict

Guest Writer Toyosi gives us an insight into what it is like to love an addict and the fears of being a mother to an addict.

She watched the TV screen, as it displayed the young handsome lad.
His hair so curly, perfectly matching such a smooth face, well-groomed hair and body frame. She had thought to herself, he must have had a nice perfume on. He looked too charming not to wear such pleasant cologne. Wasn’t that supposed to just make the policewoman seduced by this chocolate skinned tall young man? But the mean-looking police officer could care less.

Jake was being paraded for having killed a girl who called him a “fool” at a party a few days ago.  He had murdered his victim in cold blood. He did not out of the anger of being called a fool, but the influence of drugs.
Jake had been high as usual… he was an addict

As she watched the young man’s story and sat picturing what fate beholds him in the months ahead. She recalled how on this soft, sophisticated and extremely comfortable leather cushion what she had seen on TV in the past few weeks; shocking crimes committed by people under the influence of drugs.

A tear dropped on her face, then it suddenly became uncontrollable… she became fidgety and began panting. She remembered Jake who she had seen on TV a few minutes ago, and she remembered her son Ramsey… who she recently found out was a drug addict…

She had sought for help as much as he would have…

A Drug Addict
Say No To Drugs

“One more quick hit then I’ll quit. Promise” He had said to himself many times before, even yesterday.

Ramsey was so dependent that the absence of drugs feels like he is starving to death or suffocating. He now lives as a shadow of himself, and despite his being extra calm, She knew he was a walking danger. The drugs were messing with his head; he wasn’t the Ramsey she used to know.

As she stared at the huge, brown, thick picture frame around the room with a picture of Ramsey on his 10th year birthday, smiling in front of his cute cake. She recollects their plans, goals, hopes and dreams.  More tears rolled down her eyes… she imagined him somewhere, anywhere around, wasted by his usual intake of drugs. A shadow of the young man she had hoped he’ll become and as thought about this, feared that one day it will be his turn.

Arrested never to return for such unwilling crime caused by this treacherous monster. Yet she hopes in endless hope for a future free from drugs. She hopes in restless sleep of a way out of this nightmare. She cried so much for love, as maybe she would again when it happens.
