Part 7 | Building a Film Production Company as an Indie Filmmaker

Wow, seven months in! I can’t believe how far we’ve come and just how close our shooting week is… oh my, I just got nervous!
For the past two months, things had felt slow. From finding the right locations for our primary scenes and submitting letters for approvals, greasing certain palms for ease… July certainly opened the gates of everything that was stalled and this is exactly why I am so excited to share everything we have accomplished this month.
The fun bits we got up to this month:
- Got approved to shoot at the University of Ibadan
- Hired a Productions Manager
- Found five locations we love to shoot at
- Created a casting budget
- Reached out to our first batch of casting options
- Had the first round of calls with our casting options, where we discussed the project and hiring rates.
- Finished our tentative shooting schedule, which means we have our dates!
- Received payment from patrons
Speaking of patrons, I am always open to support from both individuals and companies who would like to partner with or sponsor this film. No contribution is too small, and I would love to hear from you. Please reach out to me at gold@melonhouseproduction.com or leave a donation on our GoFundMe.
Bless your heart x
July was truly an uphill mountain of reward, and going into August, we are officially in our hiring crew era! My team and I are actively looking for talent that could help us bring our vision to life while also seeking hospitality options for our cast and crew in Ibadan. In the coming weeks, I will be updating you on our progress on all these, are we are so dearly nearing our shooting week.
Thanks for catching up with me, and I’ll see you in September xx
