Part 8 | Building a Film Production Company as an Indie Filmmaker

When I say time flies by so fast, I can’t even keep track of what I’ve been up to anymore.
We made so much progress in August that September is kinda giving me so much anxiety because its beginning to dawn on me that I AM SELF-PRODUCING A FEATURE FILM!
Wow!
Anyhoo, let’s get right into it with…
What we achieved this month:
- Hired our first main cast
- Hired most of my crew
- Started talking through Costume and Art Direction visions & department budgets
- Decided on the camera equipment to use
- Started negotiations on equipment hire
- Paid for some of our locations
- Received payment from patrons and friends through GoFundMe
At this point, I’ll like to share some struggles we are experiencing:
- Getting locations that fit the aesthetic of the story continues to prove difficult. It’s been three months of active search, and we have four locations still pending.
- A lot of people aren’t receptive to doing business with us without grease in their palms, and this has eaten almost significantly into our production miscellaneous budget
- I didn’t quite anticipate that casting would be a problem, but it surely is proving difficult and lately causing a pain in my chest. With this experience, especially given the scope of this project… I surely will be hiring a casting agency to handle this part of production when next or if I ever decide on doing so later in the future.
In case you missed it, last month’s update.
At the very core of it all, I think financial constraints has been a major struggle for my team and I. We are aiming for the absolute grand result, and this is showcased from the quality of the story and script we have, down to the director we chose to do this with and the rest of the crew we have on board. But what can I say, I am an independent filmmaker who has chosen to tell original stories starting from my home country, and this inevitably is shaping my experience as not just a person but a creative in such a cumbersome industry that can, at times, swallow the small man.
With that said, I genuinely and deeply will appreciate your help in moving forward with this project that is so deeply dear to my heart. I have pushed up to this point, and I cannot front – I NEED YOUR HELP!

If you can contribute to my GoFundMe, that will spare me loads of trouble. I would like to say that any amount is appreciated and I really do not give a fuck what it is, just please give me money lmfao.
Thank you so much for reading and also being super patient with how slow these updates have become. I’m currently crunched on my bed, having a headache and being distracted by a random man but here we are… doing things we love always.
I hope you have an amazingly productive month.
Until next time, Ciao, my love.
